Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is one of the most popular methods for the detection of incipient faults in oil-filled electrical equipment in service. However, there is still no universally accepted interpretation technique for fault detection. This study presents a DGA interpretation scheme. The gas ratios and relative proportions of gases are used to diagnose the fault. The rules of the fault diagnosis are derived from the case study. The proposed method is easy to use, and case testing has confirmed that the proposed method has better performance than conventional methods.
