The emergency department is a department that deals with acute, critical and seriously ill patients; heavy rescue and management tasks; and medical disputes and complaints. This article analyzes doctor–patient disputes that happened in the emergency departments of hospitals, elaborates the occurrence of doctor–patient disputes caused by factors such as insufficient communication between doctors and patients and between doctors and nurses and lack of communication ability among doctors themselves. The emergency department should pay more attention to cultivating awareness on communication, service, legal aspects, and the responsibilities to be fulfilled by the medical staff, and to preventing and reducing the doctor–patient disputes through methods of cultivating communication skills, smoothing communication channel, perfecting the diagnosis and treatment records, and carrying out related regulations.
