We compute the renormalized vacuum expectation values of T_μν for a conformally coupled, massive scalar quantum field on a Robertson-Walker background with conformal scale factor and show that for {κ}m²=288π² we obtain a self-consistent cosmological model. The results are obtained via an adiabatic renormalization procedure and checked in the framework of the point-splitting renormalization. The difference, in the massless limit, between the adiabatic and conformal vacua are briefly illustrated.
