A tentative example of a 20 kV-5 mu F-1 kJ capacitance generator of inductance value not more than 2 nH is presented. On application to a coaxial transverse-discharge flashlamp, this generator provides 250 ns-4 GW pulse power supply to the lamp. Volt-ampere characteristics of this lamp are discussed for the first time. Computer simulations have shown that the initial stage of Xe plasma formation, that takes about 40-50 ns, is adequately described phenomenologically by the models of Toepler and Weizel-Rompe for a spark discharge. At later moments the flashlamp resistance remains almost constant.
