Thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers (TLCPs) can be used to reinforce thermoplastic polymers in so‐called in‐situ composites. A brief introduction on contemporary TLCPs is given, followed by the basic ideas and principles behind in‐situ composites. The state‐of‐the‐art of in‐situ composites is presented in terms of morphology and mechanical properties. Composite models that describe the mechanical properties of in‐situ composites are discussed. Finally, some rheological parameters determining the processing and morphologies of in‐situ composites are emphasized. At the end of the paper an outlook on possible topics of future interest is given.
