The EPR spectra of Gd3+-doped LaBr3 and La2(SO4)3·9H2O were measured with X band at room, liquid-nitrogen, and liquid-helium temperatures. The zero-field splitting of the gadolinium ion is shown to have no obvious relation with the crystal-field parameters of the 4f configuration.
