A two-dimensional simulation of the non-linear development of the ion-sound instability is described. As the instability grows, so does the resistance to the current. However, the instability leads to a modification of the electron distribution function and this, in turn, to a strong reduction in the instability growth. As a result of this development the resistance to the current falls considerably.
