The π-nucleus interaction near the π-nucleon 3-3 resonance Δ(1236) is examined by use of multiple-scattering theory. π-nucleus total cross sections are calculated and are found to be in agreement with experimental data. Multiple-scattering effects are found to be important for this agreement.
