The following characteristics of the automatic gas chromatograph for preparative purposes previously described have been investigated : (a) the dependance of the separation efficiency on temperature, type of stationary phase, retention volume, flow rate of the carrier gas and amount of sample and the conditions prevailing during preparative gas chromatography, (b) the separation of two component mixtures with and without overlapping peaks in their gas chromatogram.
