Amino acid neurotransmission may influence baroreflex function; leaves open whether targeting this pathway alters outcomes in hypertension or HF.
The baroreceptor reflex is the principal mechanism by which the central nervous system regulates arterial blood pressure. As studies begin to unravel the identity of the central neural pathways and neurotransmitters that mediate baroreceptor reflexes, amino acids appear to play the major role.
