Variational analysis and synthesis of stepped ridged waveguide transformers

A multimodal variational approach is presented for the analysis and synthesis of stepped ridged waveguide transformers. The introduction of the notion of active and passive modes allows reduction of the order of the matrices handles in the numerical calculations. Measured data are in good agreement with the predicted performances.
