Several possible solutions for axial flux wheel motor drives for Electric Vehicles (EVs) are invesligated. As a case study, a small electric city car has been chosen and a 10 kW motor for each wheel has been selected for the comparison between the different motors types. Among die different solutions, die axial flux interior PM motors seem to be the best compromise in terms of efficiency, weight, compactness and capability characteristics.
