The reasons for macroscopic changes of the toughness of isotactic polypropylene filled with different types of calcium carbonate are studied. The changes are analyzed on the basis of unnotched and notched impact strength, and on microscopic observations of fracture surfaces. The results are discussed with respect to the matrix and amount and size of the filler particles.
