Finite deformation theory is used to calculate the effective second order elastic constants ( c ik ′) of a cubic crystal subjected to very high pressures. We obtain c ik ′ = c ik + A η + B , where A and B depend on the second order and higher order elastic constants and η depends on the pressure.
