The spontaneous current Is is found from the metal-polyethylene terephthalate-metal (M1-PET-M2) system in the high-temperature region, 80–150 °C. The open-circuit voltage difference is also observed, both the sign and the magnitude of which are determined solely by the combination of M1 and M2. It is suggested that the spontaneous current is due to an electromotive force, possibly associated with an oxidation-reduction reaction at the electrode metals.
