In order to investigate changes in the Cu 2+ center in AgCl due to dark storage and subsequent exposure or thermal treatment, exposed samples and halogen‐treated samples of copper‐doped AgCl were studied by electron spin resonance (ESR) and optical techniques. The results show that the precipitation of Cu 2+ ions during dark storage can be reversed by exposure to light. Evidence is presented to support the hypothesis that both electronic and ionic steps are involved. The effect of the thermal treatment of exposed samples is also discussed.
