SUMMARY The rise of the World Wide Web as a popular and effective medium for professional and scholarly communication has complicated the work of subject specialists in the academic library who are responsible both for acquiring materials to support the teaching and research missions of the university and for making their users aware of the existence of such resources. At the same time, the accessibility of Web-based resources and the increasingly substantive content found within these resources provide subject specialists with a number of new opportunities in terms of research assistance, user education, and collection management. This essay describes a collection of Web-based information resources in the field of education and provides an overview of the issues related to the acquisition, management, and promotion of these resources to the academic community.
