The area of adult protective services has changted a great deal over the last three decades. The model for some of the changes has come from child protective services as well as from the reforms in mental health civil commitment and guardianship. Additional attention is focused at the state and national levels to reform both the service system as well as the involuntary or court systems. This paper considers the legislative reforms and some of the policy research being done in this field.
