Oxygen adsorption at elevated temperatures on clean (111) surfaces of aluminum produced an ordered reconstruction of the surface, whereas similar treatment of the (110) surface produced (311) and (111) facets. Reconstruction on the (111) facets was the same as the (111) surface.
