A small but growing body of studies have examined the predictors of support for punishment among correctional staff; however, whether a relationship exists between job burnout and support for punishment among correctional staff has received little empirical examination. Job burnout wears on a person. A correctional staff member may be more willing to punish incarcerated persons due to the negative psychological strain of job burnout. The current study examined the relationship between job burnout and support for punishment among 163 staff at a correctional facility in Haryana, a state in northern India. Ordered ordinal regression analysis indicated that job burnout was associated with higher with support for punishment.
