Rectangular distributions of velocities due to excitation transfers between levels of xenon and krypton are the origin of anomalous profiles observed in the 3.36 mu m line. The interpretation is based on the consideration of different mechanisms for populating low-excited levels of xenon and is supported by the recording of various profiles.
