The possible existence of crystalline alkali metal carbonates as high‐pressure modifications in the system M 2 CO 3 , where M = Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs are investigated. The results agree well with the experimental observations at standard pressure, and several new modifications are proposed that should be thermodynamically stable at high and effective negative pressures.
