Far red light is not included in the range of photosynthetically active radiation, but plays an important role for plants as an informational indicator of the state of the environment. Plants evolved a system of receptors for recording the amount of far red light and a set of responses to changes in the red/far red ratio. This paper describes the results of an experiment on cultivation of cucumber seedlings under different light conditions by the red/far red ratio factor. Significant differences in the length of internodes were revealed in cucumber plants grown under additional illumination with far red compared to the control.
