Seed morphology and seed germination power can be useful to genotypes in natural populations. Measures of and shape, their correlation and relationship with the capacity may be either the result of programs or the response to a specific condition. At the first instance, the of the seed is highly influenced by the , its size and weight being strongly determined by genotype and the environmental factors acting on the tree. Secondly, the survival of plants and their in fragmented landscapes strongly depends on dispersal potential, seeds having specific adaptations that influence their movement suitable germination microsite. Finally, germination characteristics of juvenile seedlings are also influenced seed morphology, inducing a successful distribution the species. In our study we’ve focused on quantifying in seed traits and germination power among and marginal populations of Pinus sylvestris L, the type of habitat. Discriminant function showed significant differentiation of populations in peat bogs. Seed length, wing length and the of germination were the most useful traits to seeds of peat bog origin that are most probably to the bog specific environment.
