H into urine from an epithelial tumor of the bladder reflect the tumor's histological structure? How closely does that histological structure determine success or failure in diagnosing the tumor cytologically? Despite excellent discussions in earlier publications,D. 11* 17718 these questions remain incompletely answered. The large number of urinary specimens examined at the Papanicolaou Cytology Laboratory and the availability of clinical and histologicaI data for most of the patients from whom they come encouraged the present effort to correlate the histological structure of bladder tumors with the cellular appearance seen in smears of urine.
