Highly stable graphene-encapsulated iron nanoparticles ([email protected]) are synthesized by a simple arc-discharge method. Consisting of metallic iron core and graphene shell, the [email protected] is quite stable in air and can resist acid etching. As a catalyst for a Fischer–Tropsch reaction, it exhibits superior catalytic performance to bare iron NPs.
