During the operation of wind power generation equipment, various faults may occur, making regular inspection and maintenance of wind turbines of utmost importance. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the application of unmanned systems in the detection and maintenance of wind turbines. It summarises the current unmanned system detection technologies and their characteristics in both onshore and offshore wind power perspectives. Based on the findings, this paper investigates future technological development trends, including autonomous unmanned systems, lightweight integration of unmanned systems, and intelligent non-destructive internal fault diagnosis. In the future, as wind power generation gradually transitions from onshore to offshore, unmanned systems will play an important role in the monitoring and maintenance of wind power systems.
