A novel structural motif in oxalate bridged copper( II ) complexes has been prepared namely a metallamacrocyclic compound of the dinucleating ligand 1,3‐bis[bis(2‐pyridylmethyl)amino]benzene (= 1,3‐tpbd). It could be demonstrated that the magnetic properties of copper( II ) complexes of the 1,3‐tpbd ligand can be adjusted from weakly ferromagnetic ( J = +9.3 cm −1 ) to strongly antiferromagnetic [ J = −366(9) cm −1 ] by variation of the additional ligands (e.g. perchlorate, azide, oxalate etc.).
