The study elucidates the regulatory consequences of Mg2+ and ATP concentrations on the assimilation of methanol by yeasts via DHAK.
No immediate clinical implications; leaves open further study of Mg2+-ATP effects on yeast methanol pathways.
The phosphorylation of dihydroxyacetone by means of the enzyme dihydroxyacetone kinase (DHAK) is a key reaction in the assimilation of methanol in yeasts. In the present paper the influence of varying concentrations of Mg 2+ ions and ATP upon the reaction rate of DHAK from Candida methylica is described and the regulatory consequences for the assimilation of methanol by yeasts are discussed.
