Intramolecular reactions between organosilanes or organostannanes and (η3-allyl)palladium complexes give rise to a variety of functionalized carbocycles. Conceptually related cyclizations catalyzed by PdII (or a related electrophilic metal) proceed by coordination of a 1,3-diene or alkyne with the electrophilic metal, followed by nucleophilic attack by the allylsilane or allylstannane.
