We used a system of a dialysis membrane, a water-soluble chelating polymer, poly(2-acetamidoacrylic acid), P4A, and lanthanum chloride solution. P4A formed stable complexes with metal ions selectively. The new method was found to be useful for recovering and concentrating metal ions from dilute solutions
