She had been treated with the same batch of human pituitary gonadotrophin as the index case. Twenty eight other Australian women are known to have been treated with that batch. A fourth woman died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in Western Australia in 1991 after receiving human pituitary gonadotrophin.
