The positions of the oxygen ions of tetragonal Mn 3 O 4 are determined through the Debey-Scherrer X-ray analysis, by the extension of the Bertaut's method and with least square method. The assigned correction for the anomalous scattering on Mn to Fe–Kα radiation is somewhat larger than the calculated value. The two oxygen parameters ε and δ for the space-group D 4 h 19 are 0.032∼0.036 and 0.008∼0.010. These values correspond to the case that the tetragonal deformation comes from the octahedral sites but the tetrahedral sites resist to the deformation.
