The strong bending of the bonds in the spiropentene 1 was confirmed by low-temperature X-ray diffraction measurements (105 K) using the X-X method. The double bond in 1 is one of the most bent olefinic bonds known; the angle between the bond axis and the lines drawn from the C atoms to the electron density maximum is 15o.
