S ummary The quiescent centre of Glycine max was observed to change in size at various times after sowing. It increases in size during early development, then decreases with a corresponding reduction of the cell population of the root. Delimitation of quiescent centre boundaries is difficult in view of dramatic changes in size of regions of non‐DNA synthesis within the primary root.
