The mechanism of quark–gluon plasma (QGP) formation in pp collisions is discussed in the framework of the EPOS model. The enhancement of direct photons at low p t is predicted as a sensitive QGP signal in pp collisions at 7 TeV. Experimental measurements to test this prediction and to cross-check from other QGP signals are advocated.
