PURPOSE THE ROCHESTER Child Health Institute is concerned with the well-being of children in the community, and essentially all the children of the community are available for developmental surveys. This report is the first in a series of psychologic studies of children at different ages. The data on which this publication is based are part of a long-time psychologic research project designed to study the development of children in Rochester, where pediatric supervision is available to all children. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the eating, sleeping, and elimination practices of children aged 2½ yr., as reported by their mothers. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY The Rochester Child Health Institute, established in 1944 under the leadership of the late Dr. C.
