Extraction of Bound Coogulase fromSf aphylococcal cells SUMMARY with the Lise of bound coagulasc positive and free coagulase negative Slaphylococci, attempts were made to extract bound coagulase by the two methods of grinding extraction and I, henol extraction. As a result, the following properties of the extracts were clarified. With both the ground cxtract and phenol extract.properties considered to I, e s iecific to bound coagulasc were sc"n, surli as iis ability absorb agglutinin, the clumpin., inhibiting antibod in 11nmiiiie sera and fibrinogen adsorbing activity.T'he fibrinogen adsorbing substance obtained ITom the ground extract was non-dialyzahle.while the adsorbing substance obtained b phenol extractioit was dialyzable.while the lotmer could he observed in the round extracts from bound coagulase negative cells and trypsin treated bound coag111ase positive cells.the latter could be seen only in bound coagulase POSitivc cells. From this, normal cells ha\'e bccn proved to contain two cliffercnt fibrinogen adsorbing substances. The Iihenol extract was divided into two fractions by acetone fraction ation. The precipitated fractioiT was non-dial}.zablc, antigenic, and could absorb clumping inhibitin.' antil, ody in antiserum. The super natant fraction adsorbed fibrinogen and was dialyzable.TITus, these two substances were different entities YOSHiKO KATO AND GENDO OMORi
