The charge transfer between H(1s)+C 6+ to H + +C 5+ * is assumed to be dominated by the 4f sigma -5g sigma pseudocrossing in the (CH) 6+ virtual molecular levels. A simple theory which correctly takes account of the phase of the electron wavefunction is used to describe the charge-transfer process. Results are in good agreement with accurate coupled-channel solutions.
