This essay proposes a program for lifelong learning which (1) advocates communication education for the elderly; (2) specifies communication concepts related to the older learner including (a) self‐concept, (b) role adaptation, and (c) problem solving; (3) explains instructional methods appropriate to the communication concepts; and (4) offers pedagogical advantages of this type of program for learners and instructors.
