A tridentate-linked amido-cyclopentadienyl ligand (C 5 Me 4 CH 2 SiMe 2 NCH 2 CH 2 NMe 2 ) 2 - (L) was coordinated at yttrium to give the alkyl complex [Y(L)(CH 2 SiMe 3 )(THF)] ( 2 ), which reacts with H 2 to give the THF-free dimeric hydride [Y(L)(μ-H)] 2 ( 3 ). Styrene inserted into the yttrium−hydride bond of 3 at 60 °C to give the 1-phenylethyl complex [Y(L){CH(CH 3 )Ph}] ( 4 ).
