This study examined the relationship between Twenty Statement Test (TST) self-imagery and sex stereotypes, as measured by Broverman et al. (1972). The TST replies of a systematic random sample of 797 adult Western Canadians were content analyzed. Although some support was found for the broad distinctions implied by labels such as agentic-communal, the relationship between stereotype and self-image was quite weak. Conclusions reached by both this study and previous research are partially a function of sampling and measurement techniques.
