This book, edited by an obstetrician-gynecologist and a psychiatrist, is an interesting introduction to transsexualism. The editors and 17 contributors all are Australian and represent a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of the problem. The writers are clearly in favor of surgical gender reassignment for carefully selected patients. However, they mention opposing schools of thought, including those who see transsexuals as suffering from a delusion and surgery as complying with the psychosis and those who see transsexualism as a defense
