The effective spin-lattice relaxation time, T₁, has been observed for the ground-state multiplet of Cr(+3) in the cubic field of MgO. T₁ is observed to vary from 800 milliseconds at 1.3^∘{} to 3.4 milliseconds at 50^∘{}K. The direct process dominates below 4.2^∘{}.
