A 350 kA, 750 keV mean-energy electron beam was used to study the beam plasma interaction in argon and helium. Experiments were conducted in both linear and mirror magnetic field geometries. The measured plasma conductivity was consistent with an ion-acoustic model and Sagdeev conductivity. The measured plasma X-radiation for helium in the mirror geometry was 3-5 orders of magnitude greater than predicted by classical binary cross-section calculations.
