The books by Smith and Valentine provide an attractive digest of much of the new knowledge that has evolved in recent years with regard to the malformed child.The book by Smith is primarily an atlas of congenital malformations. The arrangement is convenient in that clinical descriptions are usually limited to one page; illustrations are on the adjacent page. Over 135 syndromes are described. These include disorders due to chromosomal defects, but many of the syndromes are classifiable only by the tissues or organs involved.
