Spatial structure of a domain wall propagating in high-positive-magnetostriction glass-covered microwire was observed using a modified Sixtus–Tonks apparatus. High resolution was achieved by minimizing the size of the pickup coils using single-turn coils wound directly on the surface of glass-coated microwire. Our estimations give the equivalent width of the observed wall ranging from 2.8 to 4 mm in Fe 77.5 Si 7.5 B 15 microwire having 12 µm core diameter and 40 µm glass diameter. The shape of the induction signal was wider and more rounded for pickup loops placed near the end of the 30 mm long microwire sample, narrower and nearly triangular for a loop at the centre.
