A large increase in the strength of the exciton-magnon absorption bands in the region 620-640 nm is observed at 2 K in the ionic ferromagnet Rb 2 CrCl 4 above a threshold magnetic field of 0.2 T applied in the (100) direction when the crystal is pumped with 9 GHz microwaves. Comparison with the field dependence of the q=0 spin wave gap measured by inelastic neutron scattering establishes that the increased optical absorption is due to ferromagnetic resonance.
