When Kurt Lewin introduced the "gatekeeper" concept into the analysis of group action in 1947, he used food selection for family consumption as his major example and mentioned "the travelling of a news item through certain communication channels in a groupn only in passing.'However, the concept of gatekeeper was soon embraced by mass communication researchers, beginning with White in 1950,2 and has 'Kun Lewin, 'Frontiers in Group Dynamics.11.
