Complete transposition of the great vessels is a common cause of heart failure in infancy. The incidence of complete transposition in autopsies of children with congenital heart disease is nearly 20 per cent (Keith, Rowe, and Vlad, 1958), and the incidence in infants with heart failure and cyanosis is still higher. The infant usually presents with cyanosis, liver enlargement, and pulmonary cedema.
